I invested into economy by paying a lot to live and study here and it is fair to give me an opportunity to make a career instead of sending me back without almost any chance to stay. Even if you apply to the company that is eligible to give business or working visas, it’s unlikely that they will choose you also because of higher salary standard for foreigners. “1.Good for international students to gain working experience in the UK
2. Beneficial for UK market to have more international workers to generate more capitals for the trade between UK/EU and non-EU regions (Asia, MiddleEast, US) Some of these workers may facilitate the trade between UK and their home countries decades later.
3. Good reputation for UK in this world–establish an international image that UK welcomes all nationalities to study and then work here to build up what the society is today. London is specifically famous for its internationality and it requires not only native Londoners to maintain this image but people who come from other cultural backgrounds to contribute to this big multicultural community.”

I came to LSE because after a year of research and consultation, I concluded that this was the best institution for a media and communications master’s, and that the UK is among the best countries for a career in media. Students like us worked hard and against great difficulties to get here. We are a large sector contributing to this institution and this country - financially, and in terms of reputation. In many ways, we ARE the reputation. If the government is happy to use us as a resource, but will not allow us to find honest work in this country to contribute to our personal development afterwards (which in turn further contributes to this country economically), this speaks volumes of their real thoughts about the international student sector. We are viewed as givers or takers of local resources according to the context that suits government. I think government can do better.

It is necessary to give non-EU international students, who are willing to do so, a chance to gain work experience in the UK, rather than make them stressful about leaving the country right after graduation. If equal rights are given to them to access British education, then equal access should be to the job market as well. I invested thousands of dollars of my own capital at the LSE and many hours of my life to improve the EU and Great Britain (it’s what I study) and my skills would improve the lives of many living in the UK. Although I made a very conscious choice moving here to study (and rejected prestigious American graduate schools), I still find the current policy as inefficent. As an American, I am appalled at this policy that pushes out some of the brightest minds from around the world from top UK universities right after graduation. Why not invest in international talent when we live in a globalized world now? What’s wrong with hiring a highly-skilled educated person with global experience and a vested interest in the EU and Great Britain? There are many American companies with London offices that would benefit from hiring someone, like me, to live and work here. But, for other international students (Canadians, Chinese, etc.), it is still an arduous task (I am not alone here). I feel that the UK is pushing out the wrong kind of people from their country. I realize immigration concerns are heightened at this point in time, but why push out a highly-educated demographic, especially if those skills are in high demand (and those jobs go unfilled)?

international students are the reason I’ve enjoyed my time at university so much. They bring a wealth of different ideas and experiences to discussion, not to mention the literal wealth they bring to our universities. To accept all of this, and then tell them to leave the country as soon as they graduate is unacceptable. International students shouldn’t have to stress about finding a job when they should be focusing on their exams, especially when the number of companies that can sponsor visas is so limited that students will have to curtail their ambitions accordingly. The government needs to stop pandering to ignorance and trying to artificially decrease the immigration figures by getting rid of international students, who bring so much to the UK. Instead, the government should spend their time and resources education people about these benefits so that the UK remains a progressive and inclusive society.

they are a valuable asset to our community, culture and economy, they have been exploited through extortionate fees and are then cast out once they are no longer deemed valuable. I have heard countless stories from international students who are upset and scared by the idea of what they are going to do when they go home, particularly back to countries with oppressive regimes. This is institutional racism at its darkest and it has to stop

To deny these students the chance to enter the workforce is a tremendous waste of their talent and energy which has been harnessed and honed throughout their education in this country. All the evidence is that these students would otherwise go on to make a contribution to the economy far beyond what they will take out, to say nothing of their significant contribution to our society more generally.
